About Antigua

Antigua and Barbuda is the jewel of the West Indies. Antigua is the main island of many and the only island where real estate is available for purchase. Antigua and Barbuda gained its independence in 1981.

Indigenous populations such as the Amerindians aka Siboneys settled around 3100BC. Arawaks followed which were followed by the Caribs. Christopher Columbus sailed by in 1493 but was not settled by the Spanish. Instead the English colonized Antigua in 1632 setting up sugar plantations.
